The inner experience of pitching
Art dealers, venture capitalists, filmmakers and entrepreneurs face off in a real-life pitch session that plays out on a grid designed to reveal the arc of their passions, fears and triumphs. Writer-director Robin Swicord then guides them into a deeper exploration of these states using exercises drawn from theatre and film rehearsal technique, while artist Pamela Davis Kivelson draws and distills the dynamics of the interaction to capture its essence.
Crossing all fields of endeavor
Using real-time analysis of micro-expression, PDK amplifies the affect of the gestures and facial emotions at their apex. The combined result deconstructs and makes visible the inner experience of both pitching and being pitched to, allowing the viewer to observe and reflect on the creative flow that animates the pitch, a ritual that crosses all fields of endeavor.
The exhibition ran November-December 2014. Performances took place in June and November 2014, at Pace Gallery in Menlo Park.
